Photos & Reports of the 2017 Llandudno 1070 Conference

Friday 22 – Sunday 24 September 2017

Thank you to all who came and helped make the Conference the event it was. Thank you too to all the people who were kind enough to send emails following the weekend.

It is the District Conference but it is difficult not to feel a personal responsibility and I was delighted with the numbers who came, and that it did, I am told, meet its objectives to inspire, interest and entertain.

We were delighted that so many of you joined us for the buffet meal on Friday and even more joined us for the Entertainment following that meal. DG Beryl Cotton welcomed us and clearly arranged the weather as well as the two beautiful flower arrangements. There was much praise for the entertainers, Judith Hibbert new comedian Jamie Sutherland and The Foxgloves.

Having personal connections was bit of a theme. Judith Green was a colleague of mine at Robert Smyth Academy, Megan Giglia Jim and I met through the Different Strokes trust, Angela Cairns was brought to my attention through working with the men at HMP Gartree, who were both mentoring and benefitting from the reading scheme and our club has been in partnership with the Warning Zone and David Webster for some time now.

Conference Manager Bill Hill brought us Dr. Tim Mackrill from the Osprey team. Most of entertainers were all brought to us through Stage Manager Chris Knight and what a delight Nikki Chapman was, happy to stay and talk as well as all those pictures.

We were delighted to be joined by RI representative Piotr Wygnanzuk who despite having English as his second language charmed us all with his humour and infectious smile.RIBI President Denis Spiller, and his wife Penny, has been my guide on the DG journey and we were delighted to welcome another DG David Pope and his wife Rtn. Halcyon. Inner Wheel District 7 Chairman Jean Callaghan and not only her husband, Jeff, but Murdock the knitted mascot gave her address. We all know how much we benefit from our two organisations working together. Chris Wells is the only person I know who can get through 100 slides in less than 15 mins and be in time with them all. What an ambassador for Rotaract he is.

We were disappointed not to have the Male Voice choir for the thought for the Day but David George did a great job and what a choir the audience turned out to be! But not enough verses I was told. Ethiopia health will benefit from the collection.

The whole conference team works very hard, thank you, but it is with gratitude, not just from me but the other DG’s who have worked with the retiring team, I mention by name Mary French registration, David French, House of Friendship and Bill Hill who has 10 years service on the conference committee. Sargent at Arms John Aked is also retiring from the conference but he does not leave his post until June, I am pleased to say. And of course, a big thank you to all my Club team who, under Nigel Brotherton did such a great job.

The Conference Organising Committee are keen to have feedback
